Questions answered

Everything people ask before booking mixing & mastering at JC Recording Studios.

How much does mixing and mastering cost?

Mixing starts from £250 per song and mastering from £60 per track. Larger projects such as EPs and albums are quoted on request.

What is the difference between mixing and mastering?

Mixing works on the individual tracks of a song, balancing levels, tone, space and effects so every part sits right. Mastering works on the finished stereo mix, setting loudness and final tone so the track sounds consistent on every platform and next to other releases.

Can you mix a song I recorded somewhere else?

Yes. Send your stems and a reference track and we'll take it from there.

How should I prepare my stems?

Export each track as a WAV file that starts at the beginning of the song, name each one clearly, and include the tempo and one or two reference songs.

Can I sit in on the mix?

Yes. You're welcome to attend the mix at the studio in Croydon and give feedback as it comes together.
